HEARING IMPAIRED SUPPORT SCHEME
About Us
Our Service Users
HISS visits people who have been referred to them by the Audiology Department at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston. The region covered by UHBW includes all of Bristol and parts of South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The Audiology Department may refer patients to HISS if they find it difficult to attend their local clinics because of mobility issues or other disabilities. However, this can depend on availability of HISS visitors and the nature of the requirements. Generally, patients are elderly, but can be any age.
HISS can only provide service to people who are using hearing aids provided by UBHW. People who have received hearing aids from a private company need to obtain repairs and maintenance from that company.
Our Work
HISS is a registered charity and its trustees meet quarterly to discuss its work and plans for the future. Trustees are made up of UHBW audiologists and HISS volunteers. HISS does not have any paid employees and does not operate from an office. We ask for donations, which are used to reimburse volunteers’ travel expenses and other running costs, such as postage, photocopies and tool kits.
